Working with local Santa Barbara architect Kevin Moore, the overarching objective in the Waterline’s design was to astutely and efficiently repurpose the buildings’ utility-based layout to create an authentic, welcoming communal space through which patrons could move freely and intuitively while exploring the various merchants within. Drawing from the Funk Zone’s inherently gritty character – epitomized by the property’s existing structures – the selected finishes and exposed original construction evoke a bygone-era industrial charm while implementing the clean, contemporary lines and features that today’s consumers have come to anticipate.
Many of those same motifs were carried through to the logos, signage, branding and murals for the Waterline, adroitly created by local designer and illustrator Peter Horjus of Peter Horjus Design & Illustration. The logos for the Waterline, the Nook and The Guilded Table were all created by Peter, as will be the mural on the north west wall.
Kevin Moore Architect is a full service architecture and interior design firm specializing in creating warm modern and contemporary design and architecture. Born and raised locally, Kevin received his degree from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) before returning home to Santa Barbara, where he’s had over 17 years of working experience designing contemporary, modern and Mediterranean style homes, multi-family developments, mixed use developments, office, retail and restaurant interiors, wine and beer tasting spaces and commercial tenant improvements throughout California.
Peter Horjus Design & Illustration is a full service studio producing award-winning design and illustration for a diverse group of clients, ranging from Fortune 100 companies to small businesses, from national periodicals to local reads. Peter Horjus’ design work is built on the idea of simple order, influenced by his Dutch roots in the De Stijl movement and the German Bauhaus movement. Peter has a B.A. in Fine Art from Point Loma Nazarene University where he was also an instructor, having spent a majority of his life in the San Diego area before moving to Santa Barbara a few years ago.
